I like that word. Marmish. It’s fun to say – but the definition makes me laugh. According to Urban Dictionary: Marmish (Adj) – Conservative to the point of being boring, dull or ugly; usually referring to a manner of dress and/or personality.

Anyway, I’m feeling particularly marmish today.

You see, I used to be quite cool.

Here’s me in one of my bridal portraits. Fearless, stylish, unabashed.

But now, I’m marmish.

Especially today. I’m wearing my hair in a tossled bun, 15 – ok, maybe 20 – extra pounds of baby weight (I’m working on it!), a hoodie and flip flops. Yes, I have a professional job, but I work in the creative department, so I get away with these sorts of things.

I am also feeling particularly offended by cable television shows, songs on top 40 radio and teenage fashion styles. I mean I literally had a distorted, disgusted look on my face while driving to work this morning listening to a popular hip hop song.

And I think I’ve told at least 2 people at work today to watch their language. In a lighthearted way, of course.

Anyway, I need to add some of that arm (check out my triceps on that picture!) to my marm, and maybe I could get some of my cool back. In the meantime, I’m going to go find some random teenager and tell him to pull up his pants.

You’re really cool, marmish mood or not! Hip hop annoys anyway.

Well that’s a new word for me, but it seems to fit my state of mind. I am inspired and elated that a thirty-something young mother feels as I do about such things as music and inappropriate language. So delighted to know the enire generation is not lost. It inspires me to stop my quiet, passive manner and return to the spirit that would have objected in some fashion.
